iPhone & OSX Client Software Developer
Overview:
Will develop reader client software for OSX and iPhone.
Description:
Barnes and Noble is making a major investment in digital books, and our mantra is: “any book, any time, anywhere”. You may have heard of our new device, the nook; it’s great and all, but we can only build so many, and there are millions of phones and desktops out there just waiting for a great reading experience without the need for additional hardware. That is our team.
Help us make reading more accessible to a whole new generation by making readers as common as music players, and equally ubiquitous.
Responsibilities:
• Will be a primary developer of an iPhone eReading application
• Will be responsible for integrating internal and external software libraries
• Will be asked to contribute to shared libraries, and develop code to be leveraged by partners
• May be invited to contribute to Android, Windows Mobile and other projects, time permitting
Qualifications:
• 3+ years of client (desktop/mobile) software development
• 1+ years of OSX software development
• 1+ years of iPhone development
• Expert-level understanding of C/C++ & Objective-C
• Intermediate understanding of SQL & XML
• Background in Java desirable.
• Excellent communication, documentation, and collaboration skills.
• Proven ability to learn new programming languages and keep abreast of latest technologies.
• Experience with Agile development practices and philosophies a plus.
• BA/BS in Computer Science, Engineering, Math or Physics (or equivalent experience).

Our hardware partners are important to us, and this position is dedicated to making it easier for them to be full players in the Barnes & Noble digital book ecosystem with nothing held back.

Responsibilities:
• Will need to become an expert in our internal software packages, written in C/C++
• Will be asked to contribute to shared libraries, and develop code to be leveraged by partners
• Will be responsible for porting and ensuring the functionality of our core libraries on Linux
• Will contribute test collateral based on partner experiences to our core test harness
• May be invited to contribute to Android, Windows Mobile and other projects, time permitting
Qualifications:
• 5+ years of client (desktop/mobile) software development
• Expert-level understanding of C/C++
• Intermediate-level understanding of Java
• Basic understanding of SQL, XML
• A passion for gadgets and hardware
• Excellent communication, documentation, and collaboration skills
• Proven ability to learn new programming languages and keep abreast of latest technologies
• Experience with Agile development practices and philosophies a plus.
